HOUSTON --- The American Medical Association (AMA) voted today to reverse its long-held position that marijuana be retained as a Schedule I substance with no medical value. The AMA adopted a report drafted by the AMA Council on Science and Public Health (CSAPH) entitled, "Use of Cannabis for Medicinal Purposes," which affirmed the therapeutic benefits of marijuana and called for further research. The CSAPH report concluded that, "short term controlled trials indicate that smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis." Furthermore, the report urges that "the Schedule I status of marijuana be reviewed with the goal of facilitating clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines, and alternate delivery methods."

The change of position by the largest physician-based group in the country was precipitated in part by a resolution adopted in June of 2008 by the Medical Student Section (MSS) of the AMA in support of the reclassification of marijuana's status as a Schedule I substance. In the past year, the AMA has considered three resolutions dealing with medical marijuana, which also helped to influence the report and its recommendations. The AMA vote on the report took place in Houston, Texas during the organization's annual Interim Meeting of the House of Delegates. The last AMA position, adopted 8 years ago, called for maintaining marijuana as a Schedule I substance, with no medical value.

"It's been 72 years since the AMA has officially recognized that marijuana has both already-demonstrated and future-promising medical utility," said Sunil Aggarwal, Ph.D., the medical student who spearheaded both the passage of the June 2008 resolution by the MSS and one of the CSAPH report's designated expert reviewers. "The AMA has written an extensive, well-documented, evidence-based report that they are seeking to publish in a peer-reviewed journal that will help to educate the medical community about the scientific basis of botanical cannabis-based medicines." Aggarwal is also on the Medical & Scientific Advisory Board of Americans for Safe Access (ASA), the largest medical marijuana advocacy organization in the U.S.

The AMA's about face on medical marijuana follows an announcement by the Obama Administration in October discouraging U.S. Attorneys from taking enforcement actions in medical marijuana states. In February 2008, a resolution was adopted by the American College of Physicians (ACP), the country's second largest physician group and the largest organization of doctors of internal medicine. The ACP resolution called for an "evidence-based review of marijuana's status as a Schedule I controlled substance to determine whether it should be reclassified to a different schedule. "The two largest physician groups in the U.S. have established medical marijuana as a health care issue that must be addressed," said ASA Government Affairs Director Caren Woodson. "Both organizations have underscored the need for change by placing patients above politics."

Though the CSAPH report has not been officially released to the public, AMA documentation indicates that it: "(1) provides a brief historical perspective on the use of cannabis as medicine; (2) examines the current federal and state-based legal envelope relevant to the medical use of cannabis; (3) provides a brief overview of our current understanding of the pharmacology and physiology of the endocannabinoid system; (4) reviews clinical trials on the relative safety and efficacy of smoked cannabis and botanical-based products; and (5) places this information in perspective with respect to the current drug regulatory framework."

Why This Doctor Questions Flu Vaccination

(OMNS, November 1, 2009) 2009 may be the year of the vaccine show-down, the moment when enough of us start questioning all we're being told about vaccines. A survey published in the BMJ in August ( http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/339/aug25_2/b3391 ) reported that less than half of healthcare workers in Hong Kong were willing to accept "pre-pandemic" flu vaccination. And that was before a letter from the Health Protection Agency to 600 United Kingdom neurologists on July 29th warning them to be on the alert for an increase in cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome following the vaccination campaign.

If nurses and doctors start questioning vaccination for themselves, sooner or later we'll have to advise patients to make their own minds up. They seem to be doing so anyway. A poll by Fox News ( http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/08/26/think-greater-risk/ ) , often described as a right-wing channel, found that 51% thought taking the H1N1 vaccine carried a greater risk than not being vaccinated.

Yet both in the USA and the UK, this year's swine flu vaccine will be rolled out without adequate safety testing. What's going on? Two things: profits and power.

Profits
Pharmaceutical companies love pandemics; they are a great way to sell practically-useless drugs such as Tamiflu. A thorough review ( http://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(09)70199-9/fulltext ) by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination at York University found that these drugs reduced the duration of flu symptoms by less than a day, and recommended that giving them to healthy adults "is unlikely to be the most appropriate course of action." Pandemics are also a good way to sell vaccines. Manufacturers now stand to clean up to the tune of around $50 billion per year from influenza vaccines alone ( http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/08/13/Swine-Flu-Vaccine-Makers-to-Profit-50-Billion-a-Year.aspx ), on a vaccine without proper safety testing, and with efficacy totally unproven. A 2005 study was unable to "correlate increasing vaccination coverage after 1980 with declining mortality rates in any age group." Instead they attributed the reduction in deaths to acquired "herd" immunity - nothing to do with vaccines. (1)

Global sales of vaccines were worth $24 billion in 2008, up 30% on the previous year, and greatly exceeding predictions from only 2 years before. ( http://knol.google.com/k/krishan-maggon/global-vaccine-market-review-2008-world/ ) Just in time for the manufacturers, as sales of "old-fashioned" pharmaceuticals are generally approaching saturation.

Power
Governments love pandemics. They support a system in which compulsory vaccination is imposed against our will, and where nutrients, which can provide cheap, safe and effective treatments for many problems are being outlawed on the basis of manipulated and flawed evidence. ( http://www.anhcampaign.org/ )The term "biopower" was first coined by French philosopher Michel Foucault to describe the use by governments of technologies to control populations, that is, to control our bodies.

Vaccination is a good example of this; a technology that governments seek to impose on us, ostensibly to prevent a harm such as death and damage from measles. Take measles as an example; what is the real risk from it? Nobody really knows. All the recent evidence comes from developing countries with serious nutritional problems; one death in a million cases of measles, perhaps. What is the risk of developing autism if you get all or most of the long list of vaccinations for children? It's 1 in 64 in the five-to-nine year olds now, according to Professor Baron-Cohen, Director of the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge. That means there are over 55,000 autists in that age group now, and 55,000 families stressed, heartbroken, even destroyed by it. Add the older kids still hobbled by autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and the younger ones yet to be diagnosed, and you get at least 100,000 children in the UK. Most swine flu vaccine contains thiomersal. That's the preservative, nearly 50% of it mercury, that is probably a major cause of autism.

A proper risk analysis would identify the risk of autism as the greater likely cost, both human cost to the individual and financial to the state. Fair discussion of risk is prevented by management of the information flow. There is no mainstream news medium left on which you can rely for accuracy and balance.

A recent paper in the New England Journal of Medicine ( http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/361/3/279 ) reported that the swine flu virus that caused the outbreak in 1977 "was probably an accidental release from a laboratory source." During that outbreak, the USA launched a mass vaccination campaign, but this led to at least 25 deaths and 500 cases of Guillian-Barre syndrome. There were thousands of injury claims. This time around, to protect their profits, the manufacturers clearly needed immunity from prosecution, which has now been granted to them by the US and UK governments.

The Real Solution

There are dozens of official websites out there offering conventional advice on how to protect yourself from swine flu: stay away from other people, wear a mask, get vaccinated, take Tamiflu, and so on. But the real solution, the one they aren't telling you about, is nutritional. There is plenty of evidence for nutritional intake making a difference - to your risk of developing flu symptoms, to your risk of complications, and to your time for recovery. The simple message is to consider taking the following (all doses approximate, and no danger from any of it):

  • Vitamin D 4,000 International Units (IU) daily
  • Vitamin A 25,000 IU daily (unless you're pregnant or likely to become so)
  • Vitamin C 1000 milligrams (mg) several times daily (at least)
  • Zinc 25 mg daily

 

This is what I am doing, and what I advise my patients.

See your doctor and talk this over. Read the small print of course, and take other supplements if your body tells you it needs them. As for vaccination? That is, or at least should be, your decision.

As Germany launched its mass-vaccination program against the H1N1 flu virus on Monday, the government found itself fending off accusations of favoritism because it was offering one vaccine believed to have fewer side effects to civil servants, politicians and soldiers, and another, potentially riskier vaccine to everyone else. The German government prepared for its mass-vaccination campaign earlier this year by ordering 50 million doses of the Pandemrix vaccine. The vaccine, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, contains an immunity-enhancing chemical compound, known as an adjuvant, whose side effects are not yet entirely known. The Interior Ministry confirmed that it had ordered a different vaccine, Celvapan, for government officials and the military. Celvapan, which is made by U.S. pharmaceutical giant Baxter, does not contain an adjuvant and is believed to have fewer side effects.

Cluster bomb trade funded by world's biggest banks

The deadly trade in cluster bombs is funded by the world's biggest banks who have loaned or arranged finance worth $20bn (£12.5bn) to firms producing the controversial weapons, despite growing international efforts to ban them. HSBC, led by ordained Anglican priest Stephen Green, has profited more than any other institution from companies that manufacture cluster bombs. The British bank ... has earned a total of £657.3m in fees arranging bonds and share offerings for Textron, which makes cluster munitions described by the US company as "leaving a clean battlefield". HSBC will face protests outside its London headquarters today. Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JP Morgan and UK-based Barclays Bank are also named among the worst banks in a detailed 126-page report by Dutch and Belgian campaign groups IKV Pax Christi and Netwerk Vlaanderen. Goldman Sachs, the US bank which made £3.19bn proft in just three months, earned $588.82m for bank services and lent $250m to Alliant Techsystems and Textron. Last December 90 countries, including the UK, committed themselves to banning cluster bombs by next year. But the US was not one of them. So far 23 countries have ratified the convention. The UK has yet to do so.

Italy Convicts 23 Americans for C.I.A. Renditions

In a landmark ruling, an Italian judge ... convicted a base chief for the Central Intelligence Agency and 22 other Americans, almost all C.I.A. operatives, of kidnapping a Muslim cleric from the streets of Milan in 2003. The case was a huge symbolic victory for Italian prosecutors, who drew the first convictions involving the American practice of rendition, in which terrorism suspects are captured in one country and taken for questioning in another, often one more open to [torture]. The fact that Italy would actually convict intelligence agents of an allied country was seen as a bold move that could set a precedent in other cases. Judge Oscar Magi handed an eight-year sentence to Robert Seldon Lady, a former C.I.A. base chief in Milan, and five-year sentences to the 22 other Americans, including an Air Force colonel and 21 C.I.A. operatives. Three of the other high-ranking Americans were given diplomatic immunity, including Jeffrey Castelli, a former C.I.A. station chief in Rome. Citing state secrecy, the judge did not convict five high-ranking Italians charged in the abduction, including a former head of Italian military intelligence, Nicolò Pollari. All the Americans were tried in absentia and are considered fugitives. Armando Spataro, the counterterrorism prosecutor who brought the case, said he was considering asking the Italian government for an international arrest warrant for the fugitive Americans. Tom Parker, Amnesty International’s United States point man for terrorism issues, called on the Obama administration to “repudiate the unlawful practice of extraordinary rendition.”

Note: The US government has refused to extradite to Italy the 23 Americans convicted in absentia of kidnapping. Yet the US is pressing for the extradition of 76-year-old Roman Polanski for fleeing the US after serious judicial malfeasance. "My heart was breaking every day, and I was so depressed, and even more furious that these poor creatures had to endure the stench, the boredom, and the depravity of this living hell hole, for something as frivolous as a fur coat.

The only thing worse than death for one of these furbearers is their life. Confined inside tiny cages and exposed to harsh weather extremes, they run back and forth across the wire desperate to escape, going mad, sometimes even cannibalizing one another. I personally witnessed . a fur farmer who denied water to foxes dying of dehydration. His rationale: "that's one less fox I have to kill". And in the end, death came by anal electrocution, a crude and horribly cruel process.

I made a silent promise to each fox that I wouldn't let their death be in vain. I would do everything in my power to help end forever this needless suffering."

The Plague, the Flu, and You

(OMNS, October 27, 2009) Swine flu. Bird flu. The media has everyone worrying about epidemics and pandemics. Yet there is nothing said about one of the great communicable diseases of all time: the plague. The Black Death. No, it is not extinct. There are new cases of plague in the United States every year, totaling over 400 cases since 1950.

So have you had your plague shot?

You haven't?

Why isn't your doctor urging you to get one? Do you know anyone who has had a plague vaccination? Then why is there no plague epidemic? And why is vaccination supposedly the only way to stop a flu epidemic?

One proffered explanation is that the diseases are dissimilar, because influenza is viral, and plague is bacterial. But tetanus is bacterial, and we aggressively vaccinate against that. Indeed, the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/ncird/dbd.html specifies a considerable number of Vaccine Preventable Diseases http://www.cdc.gov/ncird/dbd.html#meningvpd which are bacterial. These include, among others: anthrax, bacterial meningitis, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae serotype b, and, of course, pertussis (whooping cough).

Plague is not even on the CDC's list. Wait a minute! The Black Death, the disease that killed at least a quarter of Europe, hasn't even made the list of Vaccine Preventable Diseases?

Worldwide, there are over 2,000 cases, and hundreds of deaths, every year from the plague. In the United States, human plague cases average about 10 to 15 per year. http://www.dhpe.org/infect/plague.html Most cases are in the Southwest. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/plague/plagwest.htm CDC states that "persons who have regular contact with wild rodents or their fleas" in areas in which plague has occurred should be vaccinated. That's right, it isn't just rats that carry the fleas that carry the plague. Squirrels, mice, rabbits, coyotes, woodchucks, cats and dogs all carry fleas. Fleas are found everywhere. Then why isn't plague everywhere?

One explanation is that plague is climate related. But there aren't. If plague is temperature-dependent, it is a confusing illness to say the least: how come almost all USA cases are in the warm, dry Southwest and yet plague decimated Europe in the 1300s? Perhaps plague does not spread because disease-carrying insects don't migrate very much. You wish. Insects spread rather rapidly. The Japanese beetle is an example. First discovered in the US in 1916, and seemingly limited to a one-half square mile area, in less than five years it had spread to 213 square miles of New Jersey. http://www.mosquito.rutgers.edu/jb.htm. In far less than a human lifetime, these insects took over twenty states, from Maine to Montana to South Carolina. Insects are everywhere. That does not exclude fleas.

Unfortunately, rats have spread everywhere, too. No major city, town or farm is free of them.

What is striking about the plague is that it is still around and practically no one gets it. One must keep in mind that this disease killed 50 million people. Eventually, the great Black Death epidemics ended. Somehow. The epidemics were not stopped by killing every flea, every rodent or every house pet. The epidemics were not stopped by antibiotics, nor were the epidemics stopped by mass vaccination. Neither were available.

So if you, and the entire population of the USA, are not vaccinated against the plague, why doesn't it spread now in 2009 the way it spread in the past, killing at least one in four?

Generally, improved sanitation and improved nutrition are credited with such a victory.

If these work with plague, they might make a rather big impact on the flu.

Raw Broccoli, Cabbage Slash Bladder Cancer Risk by 40 Percent; Cooking Destroys Benefits

Eating as little as three small servings of raw cruciferous vegetables per month, such as broccoli and cabbage, has been found to decrease the risk of developing bladder cancer by an astonishing 40 percent. This was discovered by researchers from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. The study is only one of several that have recently added to the evidence that raw fruits and vegetables dramatically lower cancer risk.

In this study, researchers conducted a survey on the dietary habits of 1,100 people, 275 of whom had bladder cancer. They found that among both smokers and non-smokers, those who ate three or more servings of raw cruciferous vegetables each month had a 40 percent lower risk of developing bladder cancer. Compared with smokers who did not eat that amount, non-smokers who ate three or more servings of raw cruciferous vegetables per month had a 73 percent lower chance of developing bladder cancer.

Keep in mind that this research only involved three small servings a month! That's a ridiculously small amount of vegetable matter, and yet it had a profound anti-cancer effect.

Given that these cruciferous anti-cancer nutrients only stay in the body for about twelve hours, these study subjects only experienced a total of about 36 hours with these nutrients (out of a total of 720 hours in a typical month). In other words, they only had these anti-cancer nutrients in their bodies five percent of the time and yet, astonishingly, their bladder cancer rates plummeted by 40 percent!

Also remarkably, the researchers did not find a protective benefit from eating the same quantity of cooked cruciferous vegetables. This indicates that the anti-cancer properties of cruciferous vegetables are destroyed by cooking.

Why raw vegetables not only prevent cancer, but REVERSE cancer

Cruciferous vegetables, also known as vegetables in the mustard or cabbage family, are some of the most widely consumed vegetables in the world, accounting for 10 of the most popular vegetable foods. The family includes not only cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, but also arugula, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, daikon, garden cress, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, radish, rape (canola), rapini, rutabaga, tatsoi, turnip, wasabi and watercress.

These vegetables are known to be high in important nutrients such as vitamin C and selenium, and they also contain hundreds of plant compounds that are known to fight cancer. One of these groups, isothiocyanates, has gained enormous attention over the last few years as an anti-cancer "medicine" provided by foods.

There have been 55 key epidemiological studies conducted on the relationship between cruciferous vegetable intake and cancer, according to the World Cancer Research Fund. Sixty-nine percent of those studies show a positive correlation between cruciferous vegetable intake and lower cancer risk. Interestingly, few of these studies tracked raw vegetable intake vs. cooked intake, and there is little doubt that the 31 percent of the studies showing no cancer risk decrease were likely tracking the intake of cooked vegetables. (Modern nutritional researchers remain ignorant about living foods vs. cooked foods, and they group them all together, oblivious to the fact that cooked foods lack the natural medicine of raw foods...)

Isothiocyanates inhibit both cancer and tumor development by directly blocking the carcinogenic action of free radicals. In other words, they prevent free radicals from attacking healthy cells and turning them cancerous. One specific variety, phenethyl isothiocyanate, has even been shown to induce cell death in certain cancer lines, including those that are resistant to chemotherapy drugs. (Oncologists remain indignant, however, insisting that cancer patients should never use food to treat cancer... that's why they also ran Max Gerson out of the country...)

 

Heat and irradiation destroys the medicine in foods - just what the FDA wants!

These plant-based medicines, however, are delicate molecules that are easily destroyed by heat. Cooking these foods obliterates the medicine they contain. So does food irradiation, by the way: Microwaving broccoli destroys up to 98% of its phytonutrients, including its anti-cancer nutrients.

The FDA, curiously, wants to pass regulations that would secretly irradiate the national food supply without any requirement whatsoever that such treatment be mentioned on the label of irradiated foods. Yet more science shows the anti-cancer benefits of raw vegetables

Another recent Roswell Park study also uncovered evidence of the protective effects of cruciferous vegetables. Researchers took two groups of rats that had been engineered to develop bladder cancer and supplemented the diet of one group with freeze-dried broccoli sprout extract. They found that rats who ate more broccoli sprouts extract had significantly lower rates of bladder cancer.

(For the record, NaturalNews does not condone the use of animals for experiments, especially animals engineered to develop cancer. But at least in this study the rats were receiving nutrients rather than the usual pharmaceutical chemicals injected into them during drug industry trials...)

The researchers found that the isothiocyanates from the broccoli sprouts were processed by the rat's bodies and excreted within 12 hours. According to lead researcher Yuesheng Zhang, this suggests that the chemicals protect the bladder while they are stored there, awaiting excretion.

"The bladder is like a storage bag, and cancers in the bladder occur almost entirely along the inner surface, the epithelium, that faces the urine, presumably because this tissue is assaulted all the time by noxious materials in the urine," Zhang said. Change the liquid being stored in your bladder, and you change your risk of bladder cancer.

In other words, healthy pee keeps you cancer-free!

Healthy poo, by the way, stops colorectal cancer, which is yet another reason to stop eating milk, cheese, beef and other animal products. Soak the inside of your bladder and large intestine with vegetable juices, and cancer just vanishes. Someday, silly oncologists will abandon their toxic chemotherapy drugs and learn to just prescribe broccoli sprouts.

(As a side note, dogs have been trained to smell bladder cancer in human urine. A person who has bladder cancer emits a nasty smell in their urine, and it's not very difficult for dogs to pick up on this.)

Ninety percent of bladder cancers occur along the inner lining. Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and the ninth most common cancer in women in the United States. More than 47,000 men and 16,000 women nationwide are diagnosed with the disease each year. Chemotherapy is utterly useless against bladder cancer. Five-year survival rates are ZERO percent better than doing nothing at all. In fact, chemotherapy is highly toxic to the bladder and kidneys, causing cellular damage that actually leads to more cancer later on.

Adding to the evidence that uncooked fruits and vegetables help protect against cancer, researchers at Ohio State University found that the eastern black raspberry, Rubus occidentalis, offers protection against cancer of the esophagus.

In this study, human patients with a condition known as Barrett's esophagus, which often leads to esophageal cancer, were fed freeze-dried black raspberries (1.1 ounces for women and 1.6 ounces for men) every day for six months. At the end of that time, researchers measured blood levels of two chemicals that indicate the risk of cancer.

Patients given the raspberries had 58 percent lower levels of 8-isoprostane, which is correlated with cancer risk, and 37 percent higher levels of GSTpi, which is known to protect against the cell damage that leads to cancer.

This is why juicing fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis is possibly the single most important nutritional strategy you can pursue for protecting yourself against degenerative disease. I juice every single day. My own personal recipe is as follows:

(All produce is organic)
• 2 large bunches of celery
• 4 large carrots
• 1 large bunch of parsley
• 2 medium apples
• 1 medium lemon or grapefruit
• 1 large bunch of kale
• 1 large bunch of spinach or salad greens
• Small pieces of ginger, turmeric root and beet
• 1/2 container of fresh sprouts (alfalfa or clover) - This can be changed to broccoli sprouts for cancer patients.

I juice all this up, creating a beautiful green / orange liquid. Then I blend 2 cups of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc.) in my Vita-Mix, keeping the fruit pulp in the blend, then I pour that liquid into the vegetable juice. This creates a delicious fruit-and-vegetable blend that keeps the fruit fiber but juices away the rough vegetable fiber. I like the fruit fiber because many of the natural medicines in fruit are found in the skin, locked into the fiber. So I always blend fruit into my juice and drink this slightly-thickened juice blend. It's absolutely delicious!

For people preventing or battling cancer, simply boost up the anti-cancer ingredients: Turmeric, broccoli, cabbage, kale, sprouts, etc. Cancer simply melts away when bathed in these vegetable juices.

To make the whole thing sweeter, add a bit of stevia to the final blend. If it's still too bitter for you, try adding more lemon or citrus, which masks the bitter taste of vegetables. If it's still too bitter, you are probably a sugar junkie (like I used to be) and your taste buds are all skewed. Get off the sugar for 30 days and everything natural will suddenly taste better.

Adding watermelon to your juice makes it super tasty, but raw foods experts like Dr. Cousens would strongly recommend you avoid watermelon. The glycemic index is too high. People suffering from chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease need to stick with low-glycemic juicing for a long, long time, until their metabolism gets healthy again. Only then, when you're fit, active and exercising at least ten hours a week (like me) can you start to take up high-glycemic fruit juices.

Remember, I used to be pre-diabetic. I went through the healing process, repaired my body, and now I have the joy of exercising as much as three hours a day. That affords me the metabolic privilege of drinking just about any fruit juice I want, without any negative blood sugar effects. But that's only because I'm burning calories day and night. If you're obese or overweight, you'll have to steer clear of fruit juices until you get body fat below about 15% for men or 20% for women. Even then, make sure you watch things very carefully.     Back to the "hidden" ingredients


    So how do food companies manage to hide excitotoxins and taste additives to their foods? It's easy: They just keep changing the words to confuse consumers. Once customers learned to avoid MSG / monosodium glutamate, the food companies started using yeast extract.

     

     

    And now, two years after I started sounding the alarm on yeast extract, many companies have switched to "torula yeast," which accomplishes the same thing. Other hidden sources of MSG include:

     

     

    . Autolyzed vegetable protein
    . Hydrolyzed vegetable protein

    . Calcium caseinate

    . Sodium caseinate

    . Textured protein

     

     

    The ingredients "stacking" trick

    Food companies also use the ingredients stacking trick to intentionally leave you with the wrong impression about what's really in their food products.

     

     

    For example, one company makes a nutrition bar that's absolutely loaded with sugar, but they way they've arranged the ingredients prevents sugar from appearing as the #1 ingredient. Instead, the first ingredient is rice. But looking down the label, you'll find all the following forms of sugar, all in the same nutrition bar:

     

     

    . Sugar
    . Sucrose
    . High-fructose corn syrup
    . Corn syrup solids
    . Dextrose

     

     

    Add all these up, and the #1 component in the bar is, indeed, sugar (or sugary substances). But the manufacturer has used ingredients stacking to make you think the top ingredient is actually rice.

     

    It's a clever, dishonest technique used by food companies to lie with food labels.

    Remember, the longer the ingredients label, the less healthy the food. Read those ingredients lists before buying foods, and if you discover chemical names that you can't pronounce, don't buy the food!
